Quotation

He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that we cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus

Praying with Icons: Saint George the Great-Martyr

Pray for us, St. George, that we might emulate your
holy courage in the face of the evil serpents that are
seeking to harm the innocent, the vulnerable, all the
poor in spirit who seek God with broken or humble
hearts, defending them against attacks of every evil.

Pray for us, holy Great-Martyr, that we be granted a
firm faith like yours, a faith that yields not to all the
princes of the world, nor to the idols which are built
to honor them, nor to any sacrifice of time, or talent
or treasure which we should give to Christ our God.

Pray for us, Victory-bearer, that we find the zeal all
Saints have for God so that we might live a life full
of the virtues which are pleasing to Him, His Laws
of Love liberating us from all the worldly concerns
which may keep us from receiving martyr's crowns.

Have mercy on us, O' Lord of Hosts, that we might
have the grace of final perseverance, that our death
will be the holy end to our lives in service to Christ
the Son and filled with the Holy Spirit, each breath
sending forth prayers to You until the final moment.

Note:  The above is a picture I took of a silver-plated icon of St. George which was purchased from the Paracletos Greek Orthodox monastery.
